January
This year began, as it does every year, with our annual closure. This is one of the few opportunities our team gets to rest and recharge! It also gives us the opportunity to give the Pizzeria and the Parlour a big deep clean, ensuring it’s spick and span for when we reopen in February.
February
We opened our doors in February this year – for the first time since the pandemic – and it was so lovely to welcome back both familiar and new faces to Glaslyn. We really value this quieter period as it gives us time to reconnect with the local community.
March
With both International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day falling in March, this was a month of tribute. Bonnie's mum, Elaine, was instrumental in growing Glaslyn, having ran the cafe and pizzeria for around 40 years!
Our efforts to reduce single-use plastic usage and our commitment to sustainability were also recognised as we achieved the Glaslyn "Silver" accreditation from Eryri National Park. Motivated by this accolade, we’ve now set our sights on reaching the Gold standard!
April
Easter in April marked not just a time of celebration, but also a continued dedication to our sustainability journey. We worked to protect the stunning landscape of Eryri, focusing on environmentally-friendly practices such as eliminating single-use plastics, managing zero landfill waste, and maintaining our status as a carbon-negative business.
May
It was coronation fever in May throughout the UK, with Charles II officially crowned as our King. To celebrate, we introduced a “Trifle Fit for a King” ice cream special, which went down an absolute treat!
June
In June, we featured prominently in the local media, with the Daily Post including us in an article about our gorgeous village, Beddgelert, and Bonnie also featured alongside Stu from Greener Edge on the Green Economy podcast, talking about our efforts in sustainable business practices.
July
We announced our exciting collaboration with Plas Isa Dairy, sourcing the milk for our ice cream from their herd of 350 cows. We had been looking for a partner to supply our milk for a long time and we’re thrilled that we’ve found a dairy as passionate about quality and sustainability as we are.
August
Rain, rain, go away, come back another day! It's the height of the school summer holidays, which usually means we're packed to the rafters, but the bad weather had a big impact. That said, lots of us you still came to visit us - including many of you who travel from further afield! Thank you, we're incredibly grateful.
September
September was so special for the whole team at Glaslyn as we featured on BBC 2's "The Hidden World of Hospitality with Tom Kerridge." We had been sworn to secrecy for many months in the run up to the show airing on TV, which made it even more exciting! If you didn’t catch it live, you can still watch on iPlayer. You can also read Bonnie’s blog on 'The Hidden World of Glaslyn' here.
October
After we’d had so many requests for it, we finally launched our doggie ice cream earlier this year! To celebrate, we invited our four-legged friends and their owners to a special “Paws in Beddgelert” day, where there were lots of special treats and discounts on offer! We're very proud that our pizzeria is now officially dog-friendly.
November
November was marked by a significant feature on ITV News Cymru, where we discussed our ambitious mission to make Yr Wyddfa the world's first plastic-free mountain. This initiative underscored our deep-rooted commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Eryri (Snowdonia).
December
Last, but by no means least, we wrapped up the year with the Christmas Fayre in December. The event was a huge success, thanks to the talented local crafters and the overwhelming support from our community.
And we’ve still got a couple of busy weeks ahead with our festive menu, Christmas parties (it's not too late to book yours - just email info@glaslyn.co.uk), and a New Year’s Eve warm up night (click here to book your table)
While we've got your attention, we'd like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to our customers for their unwavering support, especially in challenging times. Here's to a fabulous 2024!
